Beware of Rich Friends

Aloha friends of the Eco-Ark Project. I will be heading back to the Eco-Ark soon, and will again enjoy the peace and serenity that only being cut off from civilization can provide. I would like to thank all of you who have supported out efforts over the last few years, and especially those who have been inspired to carry a part of our vision into your own local communities. our work will never truly be completed until the world comes together in re-establishing sustainable resource developments around the globe.

I am happy to announce the publication of two new E-book downloads that are now available. They chronicle the development of the vision that led to the establishing of the Eco-Ark in the Puna Rain Forest on the island of Hawaii. A long, strange, and mystical journey that began on The Great Peace March from Los Angeles, CA. to Washington D.C. in 1986. Sharing the inspiration I received at the '86 national Gathering of the Rainbow Family in Pennsylvania.
www.welcomehome.org/rainbow/main.html
And the mysterious happenings in the vortex region of Sedona AZ. Where I was recruited as a bodyguard for an heiress to one of America's Wealthiest families. They are full of tales of Mysterious, Humorous, and sometimes horrific occurrences and the people we met along the way.

"Beware of Rich Friends", and the sequel "It's How The Rich Stay Rich" continues the adventure five years later. With remembrances from the '95 gathering in Taos N.M. Living in an Earthship there. Then carrying the vision to the tropical island of Maui. And further struggles and victories in our attempt to create Sustainable Eco-communities in our island paradise. Culminating in the a final battle between the powers of light and darkness, and the grounding of the Eco-Ark vision.

Article from The Great Peace March 21st reunion

Breakthrough to a New You

I was introduced to Michael Benner by way of KLOS radio in Los Angeles in the early 80's. He had such an open minded and well rounded approach to problem solving and opportunities in life, that it had a profound effect on the direction I chose to take with my own life. My first trip to the Hawaiian Islands was to take an accelerated learning course taught by his (then) room-mate, Steven Snyder. Steven later became my hypnosis teacher and personal development mentor. Though I managed to move on to Maui first, as described in my books http://stores.lulu.com/store.php?fAcctID=2563481 they eventually worked their way to paradise as well. Now Michael does a weekly webcast from Maui, which anyone can listen in on for free. Also, on Sunday September 5, 2009 you can join Michael Benner, Steve Snyder, and Larry Czerwonka in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii for "Breakthrough to a New You!"

Throughout life, everyone plays various roles and characters, mostly to please or influence others. It begs the question, who’s the Real You?

* Why do you think, feel and behave the way you do?
* When you speak without thinking, who’s speaking?
* And, if you’re fooling yourself, who’s fooling who?

Join Michael Benner, Steve Snyder, and Larry Czerwonka in beautiful Hilo, Hawaii for a fascinating adventure into self-discovery and life management.

Do you like reggae music?

Anyone out there who likes reggae music might want to take advantage of my neighbors free offer. Their bands name is "Ras Sparrow" and at least for a limited time (if not forever), they are offering a free download of their latest recording "Zion Town". Ras Sparrow is one of the hottest up and coming reggae acts on the Big Island of Hawaii. Their first publically released recording "Good Seed" has gone up to #1 on island radio, and they are gaining quite a following locally. Radio stations on the other islands have discovered "Good Seed" as well, and they have been invited to play on Maui and Oahu later this year. So check them out and get your free download now while the offer still lasts.

Big Island: Looking for used Bee equipment

Aloha,
A family of honey bees moved into some yard art in my yard (a rusty old landrover) and I'm considering supplying them with a cleaner home than their current one...the back end of the underneath side of a rusty car just doesn't sound too yummy! I've always wanted to host an apiary, and what a great gift from the universe!
I've done a lot of reading, and I'm hoping to locate some used bee equipment for reasonable price/trade. Here are a few things i would consider:
bee smoker
bee hood
bee suit
Hives or hive pieces (supers/cover/brood box/trap door thingy)
Anything else?

Please message me if you have any info i should read (maybe i missed something) or gear you want to get rid of...
Love,
Erin

URGENT ACTION!! We need you to send email a copy of this right NOW!

If we have ANY hope of burning the phoenix at Rebirth 2008 we NEED the
community to come together RIGHT NOW to make Mayor Harry Kim change
his mind and grant us a burn exemtion. They are telling us that we can
NOT burn the phoenix based on an emergency proclamation banning all
outdoor fires. The Mayor can give us an exemtion but will not give us
the time of day as we are nobodys.

We NEED you the community to send in a mass of emails (please
personalize to your liking but hit on the same points) to help them
understand just how much the community is invested in the burning of
the phoenix.

Time is running out, please send this in to Mayor Kim at cohmayor@co.hawaii.hi.us
RIGHT NOW! Thank you for your help, with your input we might actually pull this
off.

Here is the email we need you to send (please personalize it and
delete everything above it, thank you):

Aloha Honorable Mayor Kim,

I am a participant in the annual Rebirth festival in Pahoa. I have
learned recently that the centerpiece of the event, the ceremonial
burning of the phoenix, may be prevented by your emergency
proclamation prohibiting non-cooking fires.

The ceremonial burning of the phoenix has a lot of meaning to me. It
is the culmination of an event that has:

-Brought me closer to my neighbors and community
-Helped to support local art and artists
-Become a boon to a economically troubled part of the island

The ceremonial burning of the phoenix is the formal end to Rebirth.
Without it I leave empty and unfulfilled. Please grant a burn exemtion
to Rebirth 2008 so we can continue our tradition.

Mahalo nui loa for your time and kokua,

Your Name

I just received a message in my MySpace inbox requesting help in locating a person thought to be somewhere in the islands. It came from a woman named Kim who says she went to high school with him in London in the '80s. His name is Anthony (Tony) Peterson (who may also go by Ocean or Sea Mountain) If anyone might know him, he can contact me and I will transfer the message. Or he can contact his family. (I assume that means his parents)

Aloha!

Please answer through my profile page as I won't be able to check it here!

I have always dreamed of living in Hawaii.

Anyway the funny thing is...I have recently developed asthma due to the intense pollution here in Kathmandu. The Dr said the only way to get better is to leave Nepal. So my husband and I are trying to decide where to go. He is Nepali by the way and I am American. Go see his website it you like. www.nepalmandala.com it is for his graphic design company, Mandala Graphics. We are both 37 years old.

Anyway, my options are to return to NYC, because I have family there, or try to live my dream....Hawaii!!! I have been saying to Sherap all the time...let's go live in Hawaii!

But we are kind of afraid, since we have so little money...we hear it is hard to find jobs there and we would need to be employed within two weeks of arrival or we will go bust! So I was wondering if you have any ideas...being from there and all! If you look at my profile maybe you will see some of my qualifications although I am not sure if I wrote them clearly.

But basically this:

essential oils scent design
fresh spa products design
Photoshop
Ballet teacher for ages 3-10
excellent writer all styles
grant writing
office skills
Blues and jazz singer for hotel bands
contemporary and Celtic singing lessons ( I have MA from ireland)
Coming to the Big Island!

Me and my family are coming to Hawaii!

We are Zee and Matt, a couple with 2 small children (4 months and almost 4 years). I sew clothing and other goods and accessories, crochet, sing, play guitar, and spin poi. Matt is a carpenter with many years of experience. We play music, sing our own songs, dance, drum, and enjoy spending time in nature. We are a loving family and provide care and stability for each other. We are "green", we eat organic as much as we can and try limit our impact on Mother Earth.

We are looking for a place to stay on the Big Island somewhere in Puna would be ideal. We are willing to pay rent for a small hale or trade housing for work. I can help other mama's out baby sitting as well. We're open to temporary housing or something more long term. We have a dog and a cat and if possible, we would like to bring them out too.

Sending out positive energy... I know something great is going to happen.
Blessings,
Zee

A new group for Eco Sustainable Alternative Tech. Mud Junkies

Well, I have pulled myself out of the Hawaiian rain forest once again. With months of computer time ahead of me as I write my second book, I decided to finally start a gr
oup focused on the Eco-Ark Project. Its multiple purposes include raising awareness of the Eco-ark being built in the Puna Rain Forest, encouraging others to start similar projects in their own area, sharing ideas and methodologies for accomplishing these goals, spreading ideas concerning sustainable, Eco-friendly technologies and off grid community living. Spreading knowledge of organic permaculture techniques, to encourage the building of community gardens and the growing of food in publicly accessible places (Green Ribbon Project). And helping each other to restoring this planet to its divinely intended Edenic state before it is too late.

This group will also act as a central meeting place for individuals wishing to join in the continued building of the ark on Hawaii Island next summer.

Check out http://tribes.tribe.net/ecoark? to reach Builders of the Arks! Poke around and see if it sounds like a group you would be interested in participating in. We would enjoy input from all positive, creative souls in resurrecting the balance between humanity and our planet. Aloha!

Jewelry classes!...houses?

...Greetings familia...over the past seven years I have lived behind the Redwood curtain of Humboldt Co. and plan to move to Kauai in late August. From one rainy paradise to another! I graduated from Humboldt S.U. with a major in studio art; my emphasis in metalsmithing. For the past five years I have been creating amulets, talismans, and varied forms of body adornment as well as small utilitarian sculptural pieces.

...My goal while in the islands is to continually manifest amazing works of art and to help fascilitate others in this amazing learning process. I will be teaching one on one classes of beginning to intermediate levels. This will cover design, form (sawing/filing/sanding), saudering, rivets, chain mail, bezels, hinges, folding, texture, etching, and whatever else we can think of!

...I will be looking for a house to rent with my brother and wife whom are already living on the island. We are open to many options, 2-3 rooms preferable-possibly four with another roomate. If anyone has any leads to houses or wants to connect for classes please send me a message. On my page there are numerous photos of my work.....Bless

bicyclists and pedestrians beware Maui is being constructed for the automobile not for people who walk or ride bicycles
Please be extremely careful. Even if you think you are check and re check your position. There are sidewlks that direct you right into a busy roadway with no cross walk. sidewalks that disappear. Bike paths that are strewn with debris and that are close to fasrt moving traffic.
busy road ways to cross to get to bike paths. These are just a very few of the dangers. Duane a loved one was Killed in Kahului Maui on a
Saturday early morning while crossing a street to get to a bike path. He was sixty two years young and in extremely excellent health. He took good care of himself and was cautious .This morning nothing mattered becauce a fast moving car hit him and now his life is over and we are all very sad at his violent death.

Greetings, i am coming to Maui on January 30 and staying until Feb 27 with my sweet 3 1/2 year old son. We live in Eugene Oregon and you can only imagine how blissed out we are to leave the cold, dark, rainy skies and come to where the flowers bloom eternally, the ocean crashes and laughs and the honu swim free...!
So, we are looking for a good safe place to stay while we are there which could also include renting a camper van, camping on someone's land or staying in a home. I am a tidy responsible mama. Here at home I am a doula and student midwife and I also demo for a Superfood called Vitamineral Green. (Green Food bonus to anyone who helps with this search!!) My little one is a sweet and friendly, a good listener and is so happy to play on the beach.
Please be in touch with any leads.
Mahalo and much love,
Aloha, Darby Rosepetal

anyone been down to Waipio beach or Waimanu beach?

anyone been down to Waipio beach or Waimanu beach?

How is it there these days? Lots of people? I hear rumors some of the hippy squatters there are having feuds, etc.

sad, if its true.

this place on Kuai sounds nice too, but apparently it gets raided by police frequently.

Kalalau Valley
Wed, July 13, 2005 - 5:07 PM
Rugged, dangerous and beautiful describe the valley
known as Kalalau on the northwest side on the island
of Kauai. Once home to as many as 30,000 Hawaiians,
Kalalau continues to provide a refuge for many seeking
to "drop out" of the rat race for awhile. Cold
refreshing waterfalls, lush green mountains, fresh
fruits and plenty of friendly, peace, loving people
await those who dare to venture in to this sacred
valley.

The only way to get in is to hike a strenous 11 miles
up and down steep valley trails or if it's summer time
boating in or kayaking in are options. All modes of
travel into Kalalau have some element of danger,
either on the steep slippery trail or along the rugged
coastline in the open ocean.

Halloween FreakFest at Yo Ranchero 13!!!

Hi Everyone!

The fairies at Yo Ranchero 13 are hard at work putting together Da Illest Halloween Freakfest on our mad 28 acres of lushness. In the making is a tantalizng lineup of musical acts and entertainers (thanks for your suggestions, we will notify you as soon as we finalize the lineup) as well as being hard at work constructing the magical freakland.

Here is where your help will be sincerely and utterly appreciated (prizes determined later ;) :

1. We have commenced the construction of the Haunted House! This is 1.5 weeks away! Sickboy (Carl) is hard at work today, wednesday, at yo ranchero 13, so stop by and give him a hand in the construction of the yo haunted casa at yo ranchero! We will be building all week-end, so drop in any time and lend your muscles and creative impulses!

2. The Winged Stiletto Circus, leading the midnight invocation NEEDS YOU, beautiful lovely ladies (lads, talk to me if you're into stilettos, we might work something out). If you want to participate in the invocation, you need stilettos (preferrably the stilt variety), wings and fire toys. Does anyone have fire fingers? Does anyone know how to make stilts? Brainstorming meeting this Thursday at Yo Ranchero at 8 pm PRONTO. Thank you!

~Next Wednesday: Costume, Body Casts, Stilts and Wings Construction Night. 6 pm - ???

For the Actual Night:

1. We need greeters, probably 45 minute increments where you get to greet all our guests and collect the $$ so that we the residents don't have to sell our underwear to finance the electric bill for this party. I have the sign up sheet and the increments will go from about 7 pm to 1 am. Email me or Call me at 385.0305. This is a stictly volunteer position (but you get to meet and make new friends!!!).

2. We need people to park cars. Help direct traffic flow. You will be paid a small amount to be determined later for your shift. Email me or Call me at 385.0305. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

3. We need FRIENDLY MUSCLE!!! for everyone's safety. Muscle will be reimbursed for their services. Please call me if you have any CONCRETE ideas.

As always, suggestions are welcome, but better yet, look at this as a participatory event. DO SOMETHING. PARTICIPATE. CREATE!

Love you guys! This party is going to be Pure Magic on Tap. Lap it up!
Maui Homegrown Solutions

Let's make a difference today! Here's my idea:

Executive Summary

MISSION STATEMENT: Maui Homegrown Solutions recognizes the need for Maui residents to take responsibility for developing the existing resources and creative talents available on our island to promote a productive, self-sustaining community engaged in problem-solving activities aimed at decreasing economic dependence on imported products and energy resources.

Goal: Create a non-profit 501 (3) c entity (i.e. Maui Homegrown Solutions) to provide storefront community centers for Maui residents to gather and share information, resources and creative endeavors. This non-profit agency will consist of a president, vice president and secretary/treasurer that will meet on a quarterly basis to present progress reports and create new board positions as needed.

Maui Homegrown Solutions will begin with private donations from concerned Maui residents and businesses who support the development of resource centers designed to encourage residents to actively participate in self-sustainable community development projects. The donations will be used to secure rental space and cover start-up costs for the organization's pilot project, Food for Thought.

Step 1. Research and create non-profit entity, either stand-alone or under the umbrella of an existing 501 (c) 3. Secure all legal documentation, select board and submit application with fee.
Step 2 .Once approved, secure lease and permits to open Food for Thought, a book/dvd/software resale outlet and resource exchange facility in a large warehouse type storefront, preferrably upcountry. Ideal locations include spaces such as the former Salvation Army or True Value Hardware store in Haiku or the Elan Vital property on Makawao Avenue.
Step 3. Design and run ads (internet, print, public access radio and television) with the Maui Homegrown Solutions Misson Statement , requesting donations of used books, dvds and software from the public. Provide specific drop off locations and times. Hire contract labor to provide intake of materials, receipts for donations, and contact information. Recruit volunteers to help sort and prepare items for resale. Generate membership drive to interested parties for a nominal fee.
Step 4. Food for Thought will follow quickly by opening a small area of the rental space as a resale store/meeting place. To encourage participation, high-end coffee and tea will be offered with off-site prepared pasteries to be enjoyed in a communal, cozy atmosphere. All proceeds from the sales generated by these activities will be reinvested in expansion and development of future projects.
Step 5. Maui Aloud will be developed in stages from the revenues of the resale shop. The remaining rental space will be prepared for presentations focused on local self-sustainablility and independent lifestyle possibilities. This events will include speakers, video productions, performance art pieces and discussion forums. No admission will be charged for these activites, but donations will be accepted, which will be split between Maui Homegrown Solutions and the presenter(s). Also, like minded community organizations will be invited to share information on their programs to develop mutually beneficial projects.
Step 6. Maui Activated will further utilize the space to activate member's projects created during the Maui Aloud process. Acquisition of resources such as computers, hi-speed internet access, reading libraries and self-publishing equipment will be provided to help these groups achieve their goals. Opening and staffing new facilities around the island will also be addressed.
Step 7. Maui Shifts will introduce our ideas to the community-at-large through various forms of interactive media. Particpation and cooperation with other community agencies will be pursued with the goal of focusing attention on viable alternative solutions to create responsible answers through Maui Homegrown Solutions projects designed to make a significant difference in the utilization of our precious natural and personal resources.

Where we can go from there is limitless.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
International Talk Like a Pirate Day
Benefit Event for Hilo Community Players
Tues. Sept. 19th, 7pm
Nichols Public House
776 Kilauea Ave, Hilo

It's International Talk Like a Pirate Day, so we will be disguised as Captain No-Beard and his Scurvy Dogs or something of that nature. We will NOT be playing our originals, but rather, we are learning some pirate tunes and will be playing some drinking and pirate songs instead.
This is a benefit so please come in costume, drink some rum, and support your local theater organization. I'm not sure what the cover charge will be, but it is for a good cause (not us, the theater!!).
I believe minors are allowed until 9pm.
Approx. Schedule::
8pm: Music
8:30pm: Pirate costume contest
9pm-9:30pm Music
10:30-ish: close

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fri. Sept 22nd, 7pm
Kope Kope Espresso Cafe
Hilo Shopping Center

Our regular, 4th Friday of the month gig. All ages, no cover charge, but we love donations to help keep up our equipment to continue this gig. Suggested $3 donation.
I believe our special guest will be Mark, who usually plays lunch time on Fridays at Kope Kope. Vocals and acoustic guitar. Very fun classics, interspersed with his originals.

Now just to let you know, this is WAY WAY long and I suggest that you print it out and read it over a bottle, not a glass of wine. :)

way more of FUN! :)
I strongly advise you to stay on Maui for a few extra days to enjoy Paradise. You will have some time during the week to spend with friends or family that may wish to accompany you here, but for Intensive Participants to fully enjoy Maui, plan time on either end of the Intensive to explore and check out our Island.
Optional excursions (such as the ever-popular ‘Ulalena Show in Lahaina and the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm in Kula) are offered during The Intensive.
I (Kajira) will not be teaching at this Intensive. If you would like to arrange for a private,
semi-private, group class or Teacher Certification before or after the Intensive, e-mail my amazing, helpful, supportive husband, Chuck, and let him know: MauiMobileMusic@aol.com Or call me anytime (24 hours): 808.891.8891. This DVD is for your personal use only and will not be made available to the public. *Also, no videotaping is allowed during the closing show or during any classes.* There is only one DVD set allowed per participant (sorry, no extra orders for friends or family). You will receive info about how to sign up to perform in the show after you are registered, in Spring 2007. The Show is open to the public, your friends and family for $15 at the door.
To keep most up-to-date, keep checking and posting on the !BlackSheep, Tribal Fest,
Maui Intensive Tribe on www.tribe.net. If you are not already on Tribe, join it by going to the web URL above. Otherwise, you can still read but not interact at: bsbd.tribe.net Chuck usually posts news there first, and all the most current info and photos appear there well before they do on my site. It’s a great way to stay in contact and ask questions from others coming or who have been in the past, a wonderful way to find a roomie or flight companion, car rental friend, etc.

** PLACES TO STAY **

The Studio Maui (TSM) where The Intensive takes place is in Haiku which is part of Upcountry Maui, and/or North Shore (depending upon how close to the beach you are staying). Please read under “Itinerary” for complete info about TSM.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS AREA OF MAUI HAS *ZERO HOTELS*! I do *NOT* recommend staying in Kihei (about 45 minutes-1 hour each way), nor do I care for the hotels in Kahului - because they are not the best and are still 40 minutes drive one way to The Studio. Anything like a hotel or timeshare will not only add extra dollars to your gas tank, to your pocketbook (as they cost much more than vacation homes), but also to your long days due to the drive. DO NOT STAY ANYWHERE ON WEST MAUI SUCH AS LAHAINA OR KAPALUA DURING THE INTENSIVE! I also do not recommend camping in Hana or Kipahulu as those places are also about a 2 hour’s drive one way, too.
Instead, our solution is to rent vacation homes! These are fully-equipped homes or cottages that usually hold from one person up to 8 on average. They are not hotels. They usually start you out with a roll of toilet paper, but you are expected to supply your own after that. You will have pillows, sheets and towels needed for the number of people in your home and the beds will be made upon arrival, after that it’s up to you. They all have fully functioning bathrooms and kitchens so you can buy your food at Mana Foods in Paia or Down to Earth in Makawao (some groceries are available in the Marketplace where The Studio Maui is, too). Many have hot tubs and great views, some even have outdoor showers as well as indoor for a true paradisaical experience! But don’t expect any maids or staff on call. Usually there are no restaurants within walking distance on this side of the island unless you get really, really lucky (though they are plentiful in and across from the Haiku Center Marketplace where TSM is).
For Maui Intensive 3 we are suppling a list of web URLs to start for those of you looking for places to stay on your own (print this page or read n’ scroll), as well as a new travel agent who has access to more vacation rentals than our previous agent, Joni Stone, did. Joni passed this job over to Paula Wagner, so if you’ve worked with Joni in the past, no worries, you have her blessing and mine to go directly through Paula now.
Paula is expecting you to call or email her, and will step into Joni’s role of keeping track of who is with The Maui Intensive 3 (*so please make SURE you mention you are with this group*) so you folks who are traveling alone and wish to share a home with other dancers can save money. I also suggest you get one or two cars per home, depending upon the number of people sharing it with you. Then you all can pitch in car for rental and gas, even though it has to be driven by one person only for insurance reasons. Once the home is full, I’m sure Paula will be happy to supply you with one another’s email addies so you guys can work it out and get started knowing one another even before you’ve arrived!
Paula is also happy to find a home just for you, you and a friend, or you and your family as well. You do not have to stay with other dancers from The Intensive. Just tell her what you need and she will handle it, or go it on your own as you like (but do rent a car on your own, too, as you really do need one here). Paula can help with packages that include airfare, vacation home and car rental as well.
To reach Paula, please call her: 808.573.5669 or email her: info@koolauvacations.com Her site is: www.koolauvacations.com She is fully licensed as a Travel Agency in the State of HI, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce and manages her company with the help of Cliff Nickens.
Maui is one of the biggest vacation destinations in the world, and has been voted by Conde Nast International Magazine as “Best Island” for 10 years *in a row*. It is also the world’s number one wedding destination (we call it “getting Mauied”), so bear in mind that IT IS NEVER TO EARLY TO MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!
Many homes have multiple bedrooms and if you get together with your Tribe.net friends, troupe-mates or family, it is the best way to save money!
Also, if you have been to Maui and stayed someplace in the North Shore/Upcountry area that you liked, please post it on our Tribe (bsbd.tribe.net) so others can find it. Keeping up on our Tribe is the best way to stay informed about this event as well as Tribal Fest.
For those of you wishing to not work with Paula or Cliff, we are suppling these links for your use as a starting point, but remember, Chuck and I have NOTHING to do with them and are not in any way involved in the booking, maintenance or anything at all to do with your privately found accommodations. We also do not check out personally any homes from Paula.

www.hawaiibliss.com - Chuck did a wedding here and says it’s amazing!

www.peaceofmaui.com/ - a visiting dancer friend found this place and loved it.

www.hawaiianbeachrentals.com/Haw....htm

www.mamasfishhouse.com/ - we all love this place! Not only for staying but for eating that really, really, really great dinner you WILL remember....totally ONOLICIOUS! (Not cheap, but worth every dollar.) It’s places to stay range from as low as $60 p/night for a studio to $475 p/night for a cottage on the beach.

And check out The Studio Maui’s site for even more places to stay if you wanna book on your own: www.thestudiomaui.com

** MAUI INTENSIVE 3 ITINERARY **

ALL CLASSES AND THE SHOW ARE HELD AT THE STUDIO MAUI (TSM).
TSM is in Haiku, Maui, nestled in a corner of the Haiku Center Marketplace. The address is: 810 Haiku Road, Suite 265, Haiku, HI, 96708. Their phone: 808.575.9390. Please visit: www.thestudiomaui.com for more information (including great directions), and for info about their abundant yoga, dance, somatics, 5 Rhythms/Wave and other classes as well as for places to see, things to do and photos of the Temple that is The Studio. In fact, right before and right after this Intensive they will be featuring other week long intensives of their own, so keep in touch. I know there will be Latin dance featured (samba, tango, salsa) as well as other really cool offerings in summer 2007! It is the only studio on Maui of its kind and features sprung bamboo floors (no shoes allowed unless dance soles), state-of-the-art sound systems and mirrors.

Wednesday, July 18:

9:00 a.m. - meet at The Studio Maui/Haiku Center Marketplace to carpool up to The Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm if you choose to sign up for this optional, relaxing excursion. Your friends and family members may also attend. Our group rate is $33, and you can send that with your registration if you wish to ensure a spot (the max is 30 people there). Please state that the extra $33 enclosed is for The Lavender Farm Luncheon and Tour, thanks!
This excursion starts with herbal tea infused with lavender and delicious homemade scones (also infused with lavender)! Everyone is given a lavender sachet to take home and after our product explanation and demonstration (all their products are made here on Maui), we are given a guided tour of the gardens by one of the friendly and knowledgeable staff people there. You will be invited to touch and smell all manner of lavenders (they currently have about 50 varieties) as well as other cool plants like protea, scented geraniums and lots more. After our tour, we’ll feast on real crab cakes with mango-pineapple chutney for our pupus (= meze, tapas, appetizers) and a salad prepared for us right in front of our eyes by one of Maui’s chefs who is there that day. S/he explains all ingredients and can make yours totally vegan or with grilled Maui chicken for us protein-lovers. (*Please tell me when sending your money for this optional excursion whether you are vegan or omnivorous so they can get a head count and have all ingredients ready.*)
As if that were not enough, we then have time to visit the gift store for some of the amazing products we’ve tasted and smelled to take home! For more info, visit: www.aliikulalavender.com
If you choose not to go to The Farm, you may wish a relaxing morning at the beach, waterfalls, or shopping instead.
2:00 - 4:00 p.m. - class with Heather

Thursday, July 19:

11:00 - 2:00 - class with Jill
2:00 - 2:15 - *snack break
2:15 - 4:00 - class with Heather

*eat a healthy breakfast and bring a snack bar or other food for these breaks!

Friday, July 20:

11:00 - 1:00 - class with Jill
1:00 - 3:00 - class with Heather
3:30 - Be ready to go - bring your nicer casual clothes to class so you can change into them and get a quick bite, or food to go at one of the many restaurants in The Haiku Center Marketplace before we leave for our next optional (but “must-see”!) excursion, ‘Ulalena. Or, you can leave class early and meet back at The Studio Maui or Haiku Center Marketplace and drive alone as everyone will be given directions to the location in Lahaina (Maui Myth and Magic Theatre). It is imperative that no one leaves Haiku after 4:00 p.m. or you will arrive late.
Even the locals (kama’aina) can’t beat the deal I will get our group for the Producer’s Package! This package allows us one free drink, center seats, a cast photo and best of all: a chance to stay after to talk with the cast and crew about the show! This excursion is also open to your friends and family at the same rate you will get. The rate will depend upon how many people go: the more, the cheaper!
So, you will hear from me in Spring 2007 about this again once you are registered, and I have a head count. That will be the time to sign up, once I know the exact price. Meanwhile you can start thinking about whether you’re going or not. There is no limit to the number of seats I can get at this rate, which will vary between $55 (if we don’t have many people) to as low as $45 (regular rate, not even for Producer’s Package, is $69)! So invite your non-dancing friends and family to this show.
It was developed by Arra, whose dance company members are the cast of Cirque du Soliel’s “Mystere” in Las Vegas. The aerialists train in Montreal, Canada, and are every bit as amazing as those in any Cirque production. The stage has those cool turning-and-disappearing multi-level stages in it, allowing for seamless set changes. Projections, incredible lighting, actual singers and musicians piped through surround-sound speakers with some recorded narration provide a rich theatrical dance production of the history of Maui from before the arrival of the Polynesians until Maui Nei (Maui Today). It is at once poignant and delightful, thoughtful and enthralling........ I highly recommend you attend! Check it out: www.ulalena.com

Saturday, July 21:

12:00 noon - 2:30 p.m. - class with Jill
2:30 - 6:30 - our show set-up. Anyone not dancing is invited to help transform our classroom into a theater as well! We may even need help from your non-dancing friends or family, and then they can get in free. :-D
6:15 p.m. - all performers must be ready (if you’re in the second half you can add your adornments during our *brief* intermission) and in the room no later than 6:15. This will also enable you to get a good seat to our own show! You can watch - just bring a casual cover-up and an item to leave on your seat while you dance ;-D Info about how to sign up to perform will be emailed to all participants in Spring 2007 when it’s time to also make the ‘Ulalena decision.
6:30 - doors open to the public
Please ask friends and family (or if you are not performing this evening but are taking The Intensive) to arrive at 6:30 and remind them that the fee is $15, payable at the door only. All enrolled participants get in free, whether performing or not.
7:00 - 10:00 p.m. - Our Show! (Title TBA.) Still photography only is allowed. No videotaping other than our official videographer.

Sunday, July 22:

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. - class with Heather
2:30 - 4:00 - Closing Circle

** ABOUT HEATHER & JILL - CLASS DESCRIPTIONS & BIOS **

Heather Stants’s Class Description:
Urban Tribal Dance Company is known for their original and funky movement base and complex layered staging. Heather and Sara will treat you to a week long tour through the "Urban Tribal mind”. Classes will begin with Pilates based conditioning (note from Kajira: Heather has recently been certified to teach Pilates!), then students will learn movements that make up the Urban Tribal vocabulary. Heather and Sara will string these movements into combinations to be used in choreography or improvisation. Other topics to be covered include interactive partnering, layered improvisation and floor work. Bring those kneepads!

Heather’s Bio
Heather Stants is a lifelong artist and dance enthusiast with a degree in photography and
fine arts. Her explorations in tribal bellydance began over ten years ago when she became the assistant director of Read My Hips* (www.readmyhips.com) in Chicago, Illinois. In 1999 Heather moved to San Diego, California and formed Urban Tribal Dance Company.
Heather's diverse movement and arts background feeds her creativity and her innovative approach to choreography. Urban Tribal Dance Company is known for it's "urban" and modern
influenced dance style, a pared down costume emphasizing body movements over ornamentation, athleticism and the use of the dance form as a means of personal expression and interpretation. Their creativity has twice earned them the title of "Troupe of the Year" in
Zaghareet! Magazine's Golden Belly Awards. In addition to teaching several weekly classes in San Diego since 1999, Heather Stants and Urban Tribal Dance Company have been touring extensively since 2004 sharing their love of modern tribal bellydance with dancers in theU.S. and abroad.
Read more about Heather and Urban Tribal on their site: www.urbantribaldance.com
and on their tribe: urbantribaldance.tribe.net

*Notes from Kajira: Read My Hips founder, Stephanie Barto, was the first person ever
to be certified to teach the FatChanceBellyDance format for American Tribal Style (ATS) Bellydance. In fact, in the first “Collector’s Edition” of The Tribal Bible, Heather was featured as part of Read My Hips in a full-page photo. Her background in ATS and many other dance forms means she knows how to fuse styles, which I personally respect.
I have had the pleasure of hosting Heather and Urban Tribal Dance Company at Tribal Fest as a teacher and/or as performers since inception of that event. Heather is a consummate professional in every way and a joy to work with. I know we will all learn so much and have fun while we do so with her leading the class!

Jill Parker’s Class Description and Bio:

** Please note that all text below has been written by Kajira.**
Jill’s info is pending and will be posted as soon as she gets it to me. But you can learn lots about Jill by visiting her site: www.ultragypsy.com and her tribe: ultragypsy.tribe.net
I can tell you that she is a beautifully skilled and talented artist with whom I have also had the pleasure of hosting for years at Tribal Fest. Jill began bellydancing with FatChanceBellyDance (FCBD) in the early 1990s and quickly became one of their best-known dancers. The first time I saw FCBD was at Rakkasah way back then, and it was her duet with Rina Rall that brought me running to Carolena’s booth after the show to get class info! I started taking class immediately after, and didn’t stop for 8 years. If I hadn’t seen Jill and Rina dance that day along with the rest of the company, who knows where I’d be now.....
Later Jill left FCBD to create Ultra Gypsy Dance Theater Company and has not stopped creating since. Besides being a fabulous choreographer and improvisational artist, I know that they also perform specialty dances, put on entire shows and even do fire and bellydance acts as a main highlight at Burning Man each year. Jill has traveled with Heather and members of their respective companies on the famous Spark Tour, and she has taught all over the U.S. and in Germany.
I’m pretty sure her classes will include her famous “Jill’s Drills” as well as information about how to fuse tribal with other forms, and how to add theatrical touches to your performances. She keeps studying many dance forms and is expert at fusion with integrity, since she knows how each form works in order to put them together, like Heather.

**These are reasons why I have chosen these two women (and both are bringing assistants, I believe) to teach at Maui Intensive 3. Because I respect them as people and as artists and know everyone will be stoked to spend this week with such pros!**

** MORE FUN ACTIVITIES ON MAUI! **

Here are some ideas for before or after The Intensive, so plan to stay! Below are several web links to these and other fun places, so please print or read-n-scroll. Please be aware that Chuck and I have supplied this list for your convenience, but are in no way responsible for your well-being or enjoyment while experiencing them.
Few visitors are lucky enough to experience the opportunities that the North Shore and Upcountry Maui has to offer. Located just minutes from some of Maui’s most spectacular beaches, Haleakala Crater, fantastic horseback riding, zip line tours (Chuck and Kajira LOVE the zipline! ;-D), ATV tours, world class yoga instructors, massage therapists, artists, Hawaii’s “old-west” Upcountry paniolo town, Makawao (paniolo = cowboy), and the wonderful North Shore town of Paia.

1.) Horseback riding - enjoy riding through the pastures of Upcountry Maui, with breathtaking views of the surrounding areas such as Haleakala, West Maui Mountains, valley views that not only include “downtown” Kahului, but the spectacular ocean view of both North and South shores at once. Ride through the bamboo forests, through streams into the eucalyptus forests and even up into Haleakala Crater! Most rides include lunch, sometimes barbeque (which in Hawai’i has been honed to a fine art, complete with multi-cultural influences like Hawaii Nei [nei = today]).

2.) Haleakala Crater - experience the largest walkable crater in the world! (The entire island of Manhattan, NY, can fit inside this ‘inactive’ volcano!) The setting will astound you, with its multitude of colors and changing landscapes. See plants and animals that are endemic to this area, such as the Ahinahina (ahinihina = silvery) aka Silversword. A few have been taken to “The Big I” aka the island of Hawaii, but are not thriving there as they do on Maui. They are found nowhere else on earth! Other unusual species include the Chukkers (fat, big birds that walk around in groups and look kinda like quails) and our state bird, the Nene, which are found on most of our islands after becoming a protected species, but no where other than Hawaii. (Nene = goose and are descendants of wayward Canadian Geese who no longer migrate and have developed different traits for subtropical living year-round.)
Haleakala (= House of the Sun) is a National Park, so trails are well marked. I recommend Sliding Sands Trail for an easy walk where you can decide how far you wanna go. Ways to see Haleakala begin with a stunning drive through the many terrains and ecosystems of Haleakala. See a sunset or a sunrise. Look out over to the island of Hawaii off in the distance. A hike down into the crater can be as long as 20 miles one way (from one end of the crater and back), or simply turn around when you have hiked enough. You can also rent cabins for a night or two if you wish to experience the crater for longer, and maybe find a some lava tubes and other cool stuff others rarely see. Reservations can be made through the Hakeakala National Park Service and are usually booked about 6 months in advance.
The altitude on Haleakala’s summit is over 10,000 feet, so wear real walking shoes, long pants and layers to fight the chill.

3.) Bike Down the Volcano - Begin your day with a sunrise at the very top of Haleakala, some coffee or tea and a light snack the bike companies serve, put on your gear (supplied by the bike companies, who also drive you up), and begin your 10,000 foot descent all the way down to Haiku (in the same center as The Studio Maui) or into Paia Town. You can also rent bikes and ride down alone, map in hand. More fun, but also more risky than going with the groups, who have protective vans both in front and in back of your group.

4.) Helicopter Tours - Yet another way to see Haleakala crater! Don't miss the opportunity to hover over the lush valleys and waterfalls of Hana, Kipahulu and Kaupo on East Maui, as well as the West Maui Mountains (aka Kahalewai = where the waters meet). Because so much of Maui is inaccessible by car, a helicopter flight is truly the best way to see all that our island has to offer without some serious backpack hiking for days.

5.) Baldwin Beach - a large white sand beach and park, with bathrooms, lifeguard, pavilion, BBQ areas and picnic areas. Great for long walks along the seashore.

6.) Baby Beach- is at the very end of Baldwin beach, and named so for the gentle waters protected by a long reef. A favorite for families. Go around the rock outcropping for clothing-optional swims (also called Baby Beach). This beach is in between Baldwin and Paia Bay Beach.

7.) Paia Bay Beach - closer to town, but otherwise the same stretch of sand as Baldwin and Baby. There is a great Youth Center there with cheap, good food as well as a skate park and a hangout to help keep kids in touch with healthy ways to deal with angst and constructive ways to learn how to do things, through free classes and work days, beach clean-up and pride in the good they are doing. They even prepare the food and run the kitchen under adult supervision. Kids from ages 8 - 18 participate, both sexes and all races and religions.

8.) Ho’okipa - you don’t need to be a world class surfer, kite boarder or wind surfer to enjoy
Ho’okipa. This is a must see spot to stop and check out the colorful action out on the water. You
can walk down to the tide pools as well.

9.) Shop Makawao - the "Paniolo" (cowboy) Town, with its many art galleries, Hawaiian shops, clothing stores, jewelry and crystals, cafes, library, and a variety of terrific restaurants.

10.) Shop Paia Town - also rich in local flavor, with its myriad of locally owned stores full of all kinds of gifts, swimsuits, local wear, an award-winning tattoo and piercing parlor and a wide range of restaurants, both indoor and outdoor. This is where our best food store on the North Shore/Upcountry is, too, so buy food on your way to your vacation home here at Mana Foods. Mana carries the best fresh deli and salad bar on the island, as well as organic meats and lotsa fresh fruits and veggies.
Paia has long been a hangout for locals, surfers, tourists and “hippies” that feature both upscale boutiques as well as affordable and unique stores, and three stores with stuff that bellydancers might love (well, at least 3 ;-D) such as The Indigo, Mandala Ethnic Arts and the one right across from them (they carry great jewelry as well as very unusually styled Jewish hamsas for all price ranges)!

11.) Private Massage, Acupuncture, or Reflexology - Maui is renowned for its wide range of skilled body healers and massage practitioners. If you enjoy having body work, or want to experience it for the first time, you will not want to miss out on the plethora of talent that is readily available. It can make all the difference in the world!

12.) Hana Guided Van Tours - Leave the driving to someone else, sit back and enjoy the ride.
Local Hawaiian guides provide an informative, interesting and entertaining narrative to all the amazing sites and treasures that Hana has to offer. Lunch, snacks and beverages are provided.

13.) Hana On Your Own - Give yourself a full day and you can take the drive to Hana on your own. Pack your own lunch or grab a world famous picnic basket in nearby Paia. Begin your drive along the breathtaking, famous North Shore of Maui. Stop at waterfalls, visit arts and crafts stands and other attractions along the way. Enjoy local snacks at the food and fruit stands that are dotted throughout the trip. Be sure not to miss the bamboo forest - it’s not marked well but I think I can explain how to get there, so ask me when here. You can hike right into nothing but bamboo and it’s really cool! Keep going over one little stream and then one you will want to walk through partially and stay on rocks partially, go left and follow the trail to a lovely pond!
The Bamboo Forest is across from some gorgeous Rainbow Eucalyptus trees - the most beautiful species I have ever seen! "The Garden of Eden" at mile marker 11 as you wind your way to Hana is a nice stop for that picnic or just a stroll, and there are numerous ponds, an outlook over famous Keanae (one of our last remaining “old ways” towns that supplies the rest of us with ‘da kine’ kalo (aka taro in Tahitian). Be sure to stop at Black Sands Beach (Waianapanapa State Park) as well as Red Sands in Hana! If you have lotsa time and energy, stop for a walk through the Lava Tube between these 2 beaches. Red Sands is especially great as it is protected by a rock wall, inside of which is calm water for swimming and pretty OK snorkeling, too. You can jump off the rocks into the calmer pool while the waves (‘nalu’) crash ferociously outside the natural “pool”.

14.) Hang Gliding - if your’re adventurous (no kidding!) you will never forget the experience of riding tandem while soaring gracefully like a bird over Maui's awe-inspiring coastlines, the gentle slopes, dramatic gulches and valleys of Haleakala.

15.) 18 holes of fabulous golf at the nearby Pukalani golf course. (One of Chuck's fave places to play!)

16.) ATV Adventures, Zip Line Tours, Luaus, Snorkel and Dive trips and so much more! In summertime, I recommend a dolphin tour to experience swimming near (or with if you are lucky and calm) our huge pods of about 150-200 spinner dolphins as well as the bottlenose dolphins that hang out with them.

17.) Take a private, semi-private or small group class with Kajira! I also offer Teacher Certification (please look under that title elsewhere on this site for the details and qualifications) in my format for American Tribal Style (ATS) BellyDance. I’m also versed in oriental styles and offer coaching on any subject having to do with The Dance. Besides being an expert teacher and innovator of ATS, I am skilled in Turkish Romani-Oriental fusion, veil work, use of baskets, skirt work, scimitar or sword/saber work (single or double), as well as the Moroccan Guedra Blessing Ritual.

There are many, many more things to do! The popular ones do sell out weeks in advance. You can guarantee your reservations for some of these more popular tours and activities with no prepayment required.

Here is a place to start:
www.mauiactivities.net/index.lasso

Please check into all activities to make sure they are right for you. Many need your reservations in advance, especially the Old Lahaina Luau which is one of the only ones that is *all Hawaiian* and why it is so popular. Their web URL is: www.oldlahainaluau.com

The 2006 Ka Pilina camp at Burning Man

Going to Burning Man this year?

Calling all kama'aina on the islands and in the mainland, the 2006 Ka Pilina camp (aka the Hawaii Regional Embassy) has been officially registered with Burning Man and is open to accept camp members. The camp will be able to hold 150-200 members and it will again be organizing by small groups. This is the biggest and best home on the playa for island burners, whether it is your first time on the playa or not. This will only be the 3rd year for the camp but already our Friday sunset luau is a legend in Black Rock City, and this year's luau will be even better than ever. This is your best opportunity all year to meet burners from all the islands at once.

Go to www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html to get all the details about the camp and got to our Tribe (kapilina.tribe.net) to add your name to the signup list in the discussion forum. We have also created a new email list on Yahoo just for the Ka Pilina camp, you can join it by going here: groups.yahoo.com/group/kapilinacamp/.

We are planning on the 2006 Ka Pilina camp returning to the 4:30 area but being much closer to the playa without actually being on the Esplanade. We are going for the same type spot as in 2005 (2 corners on 4:30) but between the 2nd and 3rd streets (counting the Esplanade as the 1st) and slightly larger on the side opposite of 4:30. Check out the layout (www.kapilina.org/pix/06KP-...out01.gif) it is designed to have a large open art and performance and art car area in front while providing a more private camping area in the rear or center of the camp.

We need your help!

For the first time we will be asking for voluntary donations from camp members. The camp is NOT highly centrally organized and the whole thing really only works if small prepared groups come together to form our large community. So what is money needed for? What will you get for your suggested donation of $20? Well for one, any donation of $20 or more will get you a camp laminate, a t-shirt, and stickers, just for you (bag of schwag). This year we are going to face a need for storage for the first time as our camp has grown and we are beginning to strain the goodwill of individuals storing stuff for us for free. Storage will cost money. We also would like to do an art grant program for the camp to help subsidize art members are bringing to make our front public area come alive. Also the luau will cost some money for the pig and stuff like tables and such. In the end, the more money we can raise, the more we can do.

Donations are strictly voluntary, it is not a prerequisite for camping with us. It is up to you, if you want to camp with Ka Pilina on the playa and help make it the best it can be, or if you are not going and just support the art we are doing there please give us a camp donation by going to: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr and remember, if our tax status comes through in a month or so, any donations for the past 6 months will be tax deductible.

So sign up for the camp today if you are in, we already have 42 confirmed members already and we are going to cap our camp at around 150. Help us bring some aloha to the playa see www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html for all of the details.

Pixie Raw Girl Coming to Maui, Kauai, Big I! Selling Jaya Smoke Blend too!

Aloha Hawaiian community!

I'm about to embark on a journey to Maui, then possibly Kauai & Big Island. I'd love to meet up with kind family. I'm into raw foods, farms, alternative healing, yoga, nature, dancing all night and more.

I'll also be selling Ma Jaya's Herbal Smoke Blend. Some friends have taken it to Hawaii, so maybe you've smoked it?? Any help with good places/friends to sell to would be great. This is how I'll be funding the trip. Natural foods markets, herb stores, new-age/pagan stores, tobacco shops, head shops, freak boutiques are good places.

Big Mahalo! I look forward to sharing with you.
Love,
Jaya

container share from the big island to LA?

Hey there all,

Anyone out there interested in sharing a Matson container from Hilo to Los Angeles in the next few weeks? The total cost on a 20 foot container is around $3300, so we're looking to share the container with at least one or two other people, making the cost more reasonable for all of us. Please get in touch via tribe or on (808) 557 7174. If you call on the cell phone, please leave a message as we don't get reception in the depths of the jungle.....

Also, if you are not considering shipping quite so soon, but are interested anyway then give a call all the same.

Cheers, mahalo, and in lak'ech
hoopers or aspiring hoopers on Oahu?

So... I just made the big move from SF to Honolulu and it appears that there is not a Hawaii hoop group as of yet. I am willing to create one but wanted to see if there are already other hoopers here in the 808 state who'd be interested in a regular gathering or maybe want to co-moderate with me???

Since I am relatively new to hooping, myself, I'd really love to have input from some more seasoned girls and guys. And I did bring 10 hoops over with me so there's enough to get some newbies started as well.

You can post here or email me directly.

Thanks and hoopy love to all!

I am trying to track down Gabriel... I sent a message to him almost one month ago. Still no reply. His last post in Tribe was on December 9. Is he okay? I'd like to know the names and artists of a few tracks that he played at a gig on Oahu because I am working on a video documentary...

If anyone knows him or sees him, tell him to log on to Tribe! Or, if possible, check out these samples and tell me the names and artists of the songs, please.

Farms on the Big Island- help!

I am trying to find a list of farms on the Big Island
I am most interested in exotic fruit but anything appropriate for a smoothie
A food scientist from a big smoothie company is staying with me soon and I thought this might be a good oppertunity to introduce her to the unique agricultural bounty of our very diverse island... and it could possibly end in a generous account for cool local farmer
Any ideas where I could find out where the farms are and what is growing where?

Also curious: has anyone here eaten the fruit of the monastera plant? Could you tell me how to prepare it or if you just consume it raw? When i read that the latin name was monastera delisiosa I figured that someone somewhere at sometime must have thought the plant was delicious but I have yet to meet anyone who has tried it.

Write The Mayor to support a Veto/Compromise for Bill 71!

Hey Everyone ~ Please take a minute to send Mayor Hannemann a message of support for an alternative plan to Bill 71. It'll only take a few moments...

Here's what I wrote:

-----------------

From: Kenneth Romero <kenrom@mac.com>
Date: December 31, 2005 2:12:45 PM HST
To: mayor@honolulu.gov
Subject: I Support Your Compromise Bill Instead of Bill 71

Aloha Mayor Hannemann -

My name is Kenneth Romero, and I am a performing artist and community organizer in Honolulu. I am writing to let you know that myself and my community of artists fully support the idea of a compromise bill and the veto of Bill 71. Thank you for for considering what is best for the interests of all concerned!

Thank You,

Ken Romero

--
kenrom@mac.com
808.277.6420

-----------------

Love & Aloha,

+kenrom-

ORIGINAL CALL FOR SUPPORT BY LOCAL ACLU:

---------------------
Dear Street Performers and all interested,

Mayor Hannemann is considering vetoeing Bill 71 and introducing a bill that
would balance the rights of street performers and pedestrian safety. He
needs to know that you are in support of the compromise bill. The new
compromise bill designates a number of spots in the four block area of
Kalakaua previously identified in Bill 71 that would be available for
performances from 7-10 pm through a lottery and permit system. There will be no performance restrictions at any other times or in any other areas. The
new bill will have to go through the public hearing process before it can be
passed.

To show support for the Mayor's veto and for the compromise bill,
please submit testimony to the city council orally and in writing. In
addition, please contact the Mayor to show your support via email at

mayor@honolulu.gov

or

Mayor Mufi Hannemann
Honolulu Hale, 530 S. King St.,
Honolulu, HI 96813.

Thank you.

Ok, as of January we are moving from SF to Hawaii. We are a gay couple been together 20 years, and our 3 cats. We expect to make the jump first then have the cats shipped later. We are a High Tech couple, needing DSL in the apartment and a software/internet related job would be nice. As we are still in SF it would be nice to know of some online resources that might help us in all directions.

Thanx,

Tolver.

Hey Gang! :)

Since I've been here I've had NO trouble finding the gay male bars in Oahu. It has been a little more tricky to find the gay women bars though. I know of the Black Garter Cafe which is on Friday nights at the Detox bar in Honolulu.

However, I've had gay men tell me that a lot of gay women go to a bar called Venus. I haven't see it listed in any local queer community sites. I looked at the website and I'm not sure if there is more than one Venus bar or what - but it did not advertise at ALL that it was even mixed.

Any feedback about this bar in regards to queer culture or any other ideas where the queer gals are? Mahalo! :)

I went to Hard Rock for the first time ever last night. Coming from Anchorage, I've never been to one before. The food was okay. Their beans were so good I'm remembering them this morning. The pig sandwich was pretty good too, like a sort of kalua pig sandwich with a little barbeque sauce on top. They served *one* decent beer, Kona's Longboard Lager, so I had some decent refreshment as well.

We got there about nineish, and as we were leaving the security guards were showing up and the dance music was turning up. I finally learned where all the haole kids go to be cool on a Friday night. Crewcuts and platinum blondes everywhere! I thought I was going to have cardiac arrest from coolness overdosage. The line was pretty funny, made completely of posturing MTV kids.

Now I'm curious. What sort of bars/clubs do “ordinary” people go to around here? The Waikīkī ones looked full of tourists, and the ones near Club Rock-Za were a bit too risqué for my tastes.

Are there any (somewhat) organized groups in the islands of Hawaiians practicing pre-Christian beliefs? I'd like to meet such people and talk with them, but it seems like all the Hawaiian religious groups I find are Christians. And it's not like you can just go to the phone book and look for a church like you can for Christians, Buddhists, etc.

Burning Man: I saw it this year. Everyone thinks they are part of the coolest, most underground event. As far as I am concerned, they are playing right into the hands of the government, just as the Grateful Dead sucked in so many in the past. The desert is completely devoid of life, the dust is like toxic ash. Its federal land! There is a military presence there. But no one notices because they are too busy thinking about sex, taking tons of hallucinogens and believing they are all so hip because they are at the burn. It has a satanic vibe. Lots of stuff about death... vampire lounges, gravestones, graffiti that read, "Be a man, kill someone. Be a man, kill yourself." That was written right on the Black Rock City post office. The event is completely capitalistic. I imagine the money spent on the event totals atleast 50 mil, probably more. The whole thing about BM is to participate. What exactly are the people participatng in? A true scam as far as I am concerned.

Hawaii Biodiesel Tribe

okay, i no like put lots of redundant tribes out there, however a specific way to connect with bio-diesel folks in Hawai'i would be super helpful to me and maybe you other kama'aina. i feel like we're in our own little world and a one stop way to access local resources would be awesome (especially since i'm so new to this i haven't even had a chance yet to find the bio diesel to put in my newly bought benz). we have a different set of rust/temperature/fuel variables happening here than on the mainland. not to mention access to parts. of course this is not specific to any one island or town. cause i know us oahu folks got alot to learn from yu maui guys, and big island guys wachu doin ova dea? so let's cwapurate. heehee. i promise no more transcribed pidgin. i goin try. fo real.

i'm gonna put it out there so... e komo mai! it's called
"Hawaii Biodiesel" try search um.
